Teaching
Mehrnoosh Zolfaghari has been teaching the santoor at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, since 2019. She offers private lessons, masterclasses, and workshops for students at all levels — from beginners discovering Persian classical music for the first time to advanced performers developing their own artistic voice.
Santoor Lessons
Private weekly lessons in santoor technique and Persian classical music tradition. Lessons are tailored to each student’s background, goals, and level. In-person lessons are available in Helsinki; online lessons are offered internationally via video call.
Curriculum covers: instrument technique, Persian dastgah system, radif repertoire, improvisation (tahrir), rhythmic patterns (zarb), and musicianship within the Iranian classical tradition.
Masterclasses
Mehrnoosh regularly leads masterclasses for music institutions, festivals, and international gatherings. These intensive sessions explore Persian classical music, the santoor’s unique tonal possibilities, and cross-cultural approaches to composition and improvisation.
Past masterclasses have been held at the Sibelius Academy, Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, and in collaboration with the Goethe Institut.
Uncovering Music ID
Mehrnoosh is the creator and host of Uncovering Music ID, a podcast produced in collaboration with Genelec. The podcast explores the stories behind music, the identities of musicians, and the deeper questions of what it means to create across cultures. Available on all major streaming platforms.
